Waller's Freedom Kennels Amitola Bulldog

The Amitola Bulldog Standard as revised and accepted, April 2010
The Amitola Bulldog is not a recreation of any bulldogs past. The Amitola is a new bully breed altogether. This dog is being created to serve as an all around companion animal. Bred to be calm and watchful, yet with strength and stamina to work, when and if desired by the owner. The Amitola should be able to do agility work as well as weight pulling. It should be intelligent and eager to learn. There should be no timidness or aggression towards man or animal. The Amitola Bulldog is a moderately built bulldog, any feature that becomes exaggerated is to be discouraged and penalized according to the standard.
HEAD Massive full of wrinkle but not so much as to cause detriment to dogs physical being. Top skull to be broad with a nose break that can be felt even if not seen due to heavy padding on muzzle. Ears to be small; rose or drop ear and lay close to the head. Ears brought forward when dog is alert. For perfect ear set the ear should begin on an invisible line up from the outside corner of the dogs eyes when in repose (relaxed) Ears should be just long enough to reach corner of eyes when pulled down, but not so long they are pendulous or hound like. Not to hang below jawline. Nose to be set just below lower lid of eye, not even with them. The muzzle to be padded both above the nose and on the sides, a nose rope is allowed, however it should not to be so large as to effect vision or visualizing the entire nose. When seen from the side nose and lower jaw should appear turned up at approximately 45* angle away from the top skull. Lower jaw to be undershot, lower front canines should not protrude, when mouth is closed. Nose to be medium to large size, with wide open nares and fully colored (this can be overlooked in puppy's under 6 months of age). It should point straight ahead of the dogs face and not be turned up on an angle. Eyes to be round or almond shaped, not narrow or bulging. The eye rims should cup the eye with no signs of entropian or ectropian. Lips full and heavy, tight lip folds that do not allow drooling. (This is not a mastiff head.) The dog should be fit enough to maintain a normal body temp during a dog show. And various activities. Clean, easy breathing essential. The distance between nose break and nose on the Amitola is as follows:
Over 1 inch no more than 2 inches in Titan, Over 1 inch no more than 1-1/2 inches in Bantam Over 1/2 inch no more than 1-1/2 inches in Miniatures
NECK To be thick and well muscled, having somewhat of a dewlap due to wrinkling of skin. Medium length to balance dog and give him freedom for quick movement and agility.
CHEST AND RIBS Broad, wide and rounded, but not so broad as to give the dog a flat chested appearance in repose. Not so rounded as to cause poor movement in the forearms. Ribs well sprung. Blending into good tuck up of abdomen. When viewed from above dog should look like a short rectangular shape (like a brick)from shoulder to hip. A pear shaped dog is a disqualification. Brisket should be visualized easily when viewed from the front.
TOP LINE (BACK) There should be a smooth flow from top of head; back to tail. There can be a slight dip behind the shoulder blade at the wither, A level back is preferred, however dogs with a small incline up the back are faulted, but not disqualified. Hips to be level or slightly lower than wither. Dog should not appear to be weak in back or sway back.
FRONT LEGS Forelegs: To be medium to large boned and straight from elbow to foot. Well defined muscles from neck to shoulder fully muscled to mid section of leg. Dog should be able to free stack with forelegs in proper straight down beside the chest positions. Elbows to be placed straight down from withers beside the chest wall, not in front. You should see more chest in front of forelegs when viewed from the side. Feet to be large and up off pasterns. Feet to resemble a cat's not flat or splayed. (You should not see any flat area from the top of the foot.)
HINDQUARTERS Hips should be as wide as front of dog. There should be a gentle slope leading to tail base. When viewed from behind, rear legs should come straight down from the hip, muscular, causing the feet of rear legs to be directly in line with front legs. Rear legs to be angulated at a 90 degree angle, perpendicular to the ground, and well muscled. Equal density of bone and mass as he front of the dog. The dog should be well up on toes to balance with the front . This is the driving area in the dogs movement It must appear powerful. Yet still remain in balance with over all dog.
TAIL Thick and full may be wrinkled (preferred) and should come to a tapered end. The tail may be docked short or screw. Kinked or straight tails should be no longer than the rear genitalia, just where the legs begin to separate. A screw tail is allowed as long as it is not inset (tucked into dogs flesh). All things equal preference goes to the natural short tail. (as long as it is within correct length) Tail should look as if it naturally comes off the dog rather than out of the dog. Free moving tail, may be held straight out from the dog during movement or above the top line of the dog during excitement or play. This makes for better movement in the rear and balance as the dog moves.
MOVEMENT The Amitola Bulldog should move with a purposeful stride, not lumbering or sluggish. Bone and weight should be balanced allowing dog to carry weight easily. The front and rear legs should move in a straight line without toeing in or out. Natural gait to be an easy walk. When gaiting the dog should be able to move at medium pace without tiring or showing excess exertion. Top line is to be observed with no rolling gate disturbing the outline of the dog from the side. When observed from the front all legs move in line with rear legs falling behind the front legs . * Note at faster pace the rear legs will naturally move closer to the inside and under the dogs body, this is not a fault * Rear movement should be strong and smooth during gaited movement. The Amitola Bulldog should not shuffle along, it is a free moving, well muscled dog.
COLOR There are no points for color it has no bearing on quality of the dog, nor the health. Base Color: black, blue, chocolate, lilac, isabella, cream, red and fawn. Any patterns including but not limited to: self, sable, w/tan, brindle, piebald, spotted and merle (and any new variations) The nose must be black, with the exception of blue varieties which have a slate gray nose, and chocolates which have a liver colored nose. Also, Lilac varieties have a very pale dove grey coloring. It is noted that during winter months some lightening of pigment of the nose in dilute and cream colors can occur. This should not be severely penalized however all things being equal preference given to the darkest pigment of the color being judged.(Grace given to young pups during development of color pigment until 6 months of age without penalty)
For the sizes below: Height is the measuring factor for division of varieties, weights listed are a guide for the breeder in selecting appropriate specimens for breeding. Dogs under weights will appear more rangy, dogs over weights will appear mastiff like and cumbersome. Both are major faults.
Note: females should look like females. Allowance for features that are feminine without fault or prejudice.
